Results will be disclosed during the 14th edition of gala des prix Opus, held January 30, 2011 3:30 @ Claude-Champagne, in Montreal.

Following the Montreux solo piano competition, Rafael will travel to the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Holland on July 9 for the finals of the EBU European Jazz Competition.
He will be performing among artists such as Kurt Elling, Al Jarreau, and Amadou & Mariam. Rafael is one of the competition’s five finalists, and will be accompanied for the occasion by his musicians Nicolas Bédard (double bass) and Kevin Warren (drums).

Rafael is one of 10 pianists selected for the semi-finals of the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition. The next stage of the competition will be held on July 6, followed by the finals on July 7.

In 1999, Claude Nobs, the Festival’s founder and director, decided to create an international solo competition for young and talented professional jazz pianists under the age of 30.

Neuf artistes ou groupes québécois de la relève sont en lice pour remporter le Grand Prix de la relève musicale Archambault, 6e édition. Le gagnant, dont le nom sera dévoilé en septembre 2011, obtiendra l’une des plus importantes bourses de l’industrie, soit 10 000 $, accompagnée d’une bourse de 2 000 $ remise à la maison de disques du gagnant pour en faire la promotion.

In June 2010, he succeeded double bassist Brandi Disterheft as Espace Musique’s “Révélation Radio-Canada Musique”. The jury members overwhelmingly saw in him a pianist with a brilliant future.
